Measuring an item to sell
Measurements help an item sell faster, because buyers can compare them with clothes they already own. Lay the item flat on a table, smooth it out, and measure in inches.
Tops
- Shoulder width: Between the shoulder seams on the back of the item.
- Length: From the very top of the neckline to the bottom hem.
Dresses
- Chest: Across the chest from armpit to armpit, laid flat.
- Length: From the very top of the neckline to the bottom hem.
Trousers
- Waist: Straight across the waistband, laid flat, then doubled.
- Inside leg: From the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
Skirts
- Waist: Straight across the waistband, laid flat, then doubled.
- Length: From the top of the waistband to the hem.
Match the size to the item's label, even if it fits you differently, and mention it in the description if it runs large or small.
